Aadhaar card is now mandatory for nominees of your EPF account
Under a new set of rules for making e-nomination of your provident fund account, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made it mandatory to submit Aadhaar card number of all your nominees. The e-nomination facility allow EPF members to nominate their family members over the organisation’s e-Sewa portal. However, according to EPFO rules, Aadhaar of all the family members nominated is mandatory.
This means that to be able to use the online nomination facility, the member will not only need to have their UAN linked to Aadhaar, but also submit the Aadhaar numbers of their nominations.
Besides Aadhaar, it is also compulsory to submit scanned images of all your nominee/s and their date of birth and mobile number. There is also a provision to submit bank account details of the nominee but that is optional.
EPFO said that the modifications have been made to make the functionality compatible with the pension claim form and nominee form. A readily available nomination system will enable members to file online pension claims and in case of death of the account holder, his/her nominee can file an online claim using the OTP sent to his/her Aadhaar linked mobile.
You can also add EPS (Employee Pension Scheme) nomination over the system online. The nomination process is complete after the account holder e-signs using virtual Aadhaar ID that can be generated online on the UIDAI portal. One is also required to take a printout of the PDF file generated, sign it and submit it to the employer.
